Newborn Photography FAQs

  • Your shoot will take around an hour or two depending on which package you have booked, longer if needed to get the shots.

Your session is totally baby led and we will work with whatever makes baby happiest. It is SO important that Mum & Dad are as relaxed as possible, happy parents = happy baby, your photo’s are going to be incredible!

If baby needs a nappy change, a tummy top up or even just a cuddle that’s absolutely fine.

When I arrive I will ask where you have in mind for your shoot and will ask to be shown the rooms, if you could have all blinds and curtains open in prep that would be great. Please don’t be offended if I move furniture or some bits around during the shoot, I will just be trying to find the best setup to capture the best light and will put everything back when we’re done.

  • Ideally, I would advise you to think about booking your session after your 20 week scan to ensure availability for the month of your due date.

Obviously at this time we won’t know the exact date that baby will come but that is absolutely fine. I only book in as many sessions as I can handle for each month ahead of time with some flexibility for those babies that arrive early/late.

You book your session through my website by completing the agreement and paying your £100 deposit.

  • I do often get booked up in advance however, it is always worth getting in touch through my contact page to check if I can fit you in!

You’ll often find that for lots of newborn shoots you’re advised the session must take place within the first two weeks of baby arriving & this is because baby is most sleepy in this stage so it’s much easier to pose & position with props etc however as none of that applies to my at home, more documentary style of shooting I still class shoots with babies up to 8 weeks old as newborns.

So don’t worry, if you are booking a little late you probably haven’t missed out, just give me a shout!

  • Your shoot always takes place at home. My main aim is not only to take come beautiful photos of your new baby but also document the time of babies first home & all of you as a new family.

  • Your at home shoot is going to be totally focused on your new arrival and the rest of your family, not your home itself. It is not at all important for you to make sure that your home is spotlessly clean and tidy for when I arrive, you have just had a baby who is totally your priority, not the dirty dishes in the sink! The main rooms I usually shoot in are living areas, where there is a nice couch, master bedroom & baby’s bedroom if it’s ready. It is completely up to you where we will shoot so have a think before hand about any ideas you might have, remember that natural light coming in through windows and doors is key. It is worth taking a look around before I arrive at surfaces next to couches and bedside tables etc and remove any clutter, like empty glasses/mugs etc.

The main thing you need to do is RELAX and have FUN.

  • It is best if you try to feed baby up around 15-30mins before I am due to arrive, this will make baby nice and comfortable with a full tummy. It’s also a great idea to crank the heating up a bit to make sure baby is nice and warm as I often get photos of baby whilst naked or just wearing a nappy, if we’re all sweating - that’s perfect for baby!

It’s good to have clothes for baby planned and also a backup. Even if one outfit is a simple plain white baby grow, that’s perfect. For Mum, Dad & anyone else planned to be in the shoot it’s best to keep things neutral in colour and stay away from any busy patterns as this can be distracting in photo’s where the focus should be on baby & co.

Neutral and pattern free should also apply to the bedding in your master bedroom and it’s often a great place to photograph baby.

  • This is totally normal & as you can imagine happens all the time. As all sessions are completely baby led we absolutely work within baby’s needs. If baby needs a nappy change, a tummy top up or even just a cuddle that’s absolutely fine.

We will take the time to make baby happy & get the shots.

  • Of course! My sessions are to document your newborn but also your new family’s first moments at home which definitely includes any brothers or sisters.

If you also have furry family members make sure that you keep them in the house, they’re part of the family too and I’ll try to incorporate them into your shoot as much as possible! Please don’t feel like you need to remove them from your home whilst we shoot.

  • Your online gallery will be available within 4 weeks of the date of your shoot & from there I can further advise on lead times if you have chosen a package to include prints or products or you want to add on after seeing your photos.
